World Series Final Game Draws 51 Million Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling extra-inning contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a total over 50 million viewers across the US, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB stated this is the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic game secured 27.33 million audience members on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 was 7th, Game 5 came in eighth, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game recorded 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English broadcast in the country since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – recorded 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game series recorded over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total American average was over 16 million. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09M viewers, an 8% increase over last year and Fox’s best playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
